Justice D.U. Okorowo, in a ruling on Friday, said that the Dogara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was wrong and meant he should vacate the legislative seat.

Yakubu Dogara was the Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019. He is currently representing Bogoro/Dass Federal constituency of Bauchi State at the lower chamber.

Dogara defected to the APC on July 24, 2020 after being elected under the PDP in 2019.

His frosty relationship with his state governor, Bala Mohammed, was one of the main reasons he ditched the PDP which he joined less than five years ago.

According to reports, the Peoples Democratic Party and four other groups filed a suit protesting Dogara’s defection asking the court to remove him as the member representing the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State over his defection to the APC.
