A yet-to-be-identified man on Saturday jumped into the Lagoon around the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State. It was learnt that the man had boarded a car-hailing service, Uber, from Gbagada to a destination in the state. While the driver was commuting him to his destination, according to PUNCH report, the passenger told the driver to park on the Third Mainland Bridge because he had a stomach ache. After parking, the yet-to-be-identified man disembarked from the vehicle and jumped into the ocean around 11am. Veteran singer, Eedris AbdulKareem, was recently arrested for allegedly beating up his landlord, Oladipo Abimbola, over an unpaid N535,000 accumulated electricity bill on January 3, 2020, at Valley View Estate, Ikeja, Lagos. The singer was said to have forced his way into his landlord’s compound in order to beat and strangle him for instructing officials of Ikeja Electricity Destribution (IKED) to disconnect his house. According to Abimbola, Eedris’ wife rented the apartment on behalf of her husband and so he didn’t know the singer was to be his tenant. The founder of the Sotitobire Praising Chapel, Akure, Alfa Babatunde, was not granted bail, on Thursday by the State High Court, sitting in Akure, the state capital. Hundreds of followers and worshippers of the church, who stormed the court premises to witness the court proceedings, and waited for his bail to be granted were disappointed as their pastor was taken back to the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure. The state High Court on Thursday began the hearing of Babatunde and six other defendants, who are standing trial over the disappearance of a one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole, who was allegedly abducted in the church. The case was transferred from the magistrates’ court, which reportedly had no jurisdiction to hear the matter. Tragedy struck on Wednesday as two pupils were killed while two others sustained serious injuries when an overhead water tank fell inside their classroom in Royal Kings Foundation nursery and primary school, Nkpor-Agu in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State. According to findings, the victims, three boys and a girl were immediately rushed to the hospital where two of them, aged 2 and 3, were confirmed dead. Members of the House of Representatives have called on the service chiefs to resign their positions. This formed part of the resolutions reached after the lawmakers had a debate on the nation’s security during Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja. A member of the House, Abubakar Fulata, had informed his colleagues in the chamber that the service chiefs had outlived their usefulness.  A 53-year-old man, Vincent Akande, has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl.  The victim’s father had told the court that their community resolved the matter and asked Akande to pay a fine of a female goat and N5,000 for the crime but he refused before an NGO, BraveHeart Initiative for Youth & Women (BHI), took up the matter and he was then charged to court.  The prosecutor, Sergeant Samuel Obeze, had told the court that Akande committed the crime on May, 12 2019 when the girl, who suffers from epilepsy, was at Igbetua river side sieving sands to get some money for the family.  The victim who narrated her ordeal in court, said the convict, a vigilante member grabbed her while she was packing sand from the river and threatened her with the Dane gun with him before she surrendered to him.  She further told the court that Akande said he will kill her like a three-year-old girl who was raped and strangled to death by the same river side few

Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, on Monday said he was attacked by suspected herdsmen while at his farm located along Makurdi-Naka road in Makurdi, Benue state capital, last week. During an interactive session with reporters in Makurdi, Ortom said he would not bow to the attempt to intimidate him for speaking up for his people. He also reiterated his call for arrest and prosecution of Miyetti Allah leaders for allegedly instigating violence against farmers in Benue state. “I went my farm last week and the herdsmen who were coming back to Benue state in their numbers shot at me, ” Ortom said. The Federal Capital Territory High Court, on Monday, found Maryam Sanda guilty of killing her husband,  Bilyaminu Bello. Ms Sanda was sentenced to death by hanging by the judge. The Nigerian police charged Ms Sanda for culpable homicide in November 2017, and sought the death penalty against the accused in a two count charge. The victim, Mr Bello, was the son of a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Bello. Justice Yusuf Halilu said there was compelling evidence to convict the accused. The judge dismissed Ms Sanda’s statement that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during a fight on the ill-fated day as a “smokescreen to deceive the court”. He said available evidence proved that the accused stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife with intent to ” kill”. As the judge pronounced Ms Sanda guilty, the accused attempted to run out of the court room while her relatives started shouting, causing an uproar in an attempt to draw public sympathy

Gunmen on Saturday attacked vehicles conveying travellers, who alighted at  Rigasa railway station from Abuja, injured some of them and abducted several others. ‎ News Agency report (NAN) gathered that the attack occurred along the road linking airport road from the railway station at about 8 pm. A similar attack occurred on Friday at about the same time on the same road after passengers left the train station heading to their homes in Kaduna and other places.
